State of the River 2005-2006
Bonnet Plume River (Yukon)
“River of black sands”
Designated 1998
The Bonnet Plume River's heritage values remain intact and in a pristine state largely due to the remoteness of the River and its limited use. There have been no industrial types of development over the reporting period of 2005/2006. No infrastructure development such as campgrounds, kiosks, privies, or other developments in support of the River's recreational use have been initiated or are planned. Development of a systematic river monitoring/assessment program was initiated during the spring of 2006 and implementation of the assessment program is planned for the 2006/07 reporting period. The river assessment monitoring program will focus on recreational camping and stopping sites that are being used by private and commercial rafting/canoeing parties. This assessment work is considered essential in making future management decisions regarding the recreational carrying capacity of the Bonnet Plume River.
No other land uses have occurred since last year's report.
