State of the River 2004-2005
North Saskatchewan River (Banff National Park, Alberta)
“Out of the Ice”
Designated 1989
There were no new developments or facilities in the past year. Water quality has remained the same- no significant negative environmental impacts. Baseline information related to fisheries is still required. Bull trout continue to successfully negotiate the restored culvert on Owen Creek. Prescribed burns in the vicinity of Saskatchewan have still not been undertaken due to unfavourable burning conditions. An inventory of amphibians is being undertaken along the highways in this drainage, which will include areas proximal to the river. There is a recreational river use study being undertaken in 2005. The state of this river within Banff National Park appears to remain relatively pristine.
