Voyageurs National Park

The website of the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, for Voyageurs National Park, west of Lac La Croix, the western boundary of the boundary Water-Voyageur Waterway Canadian Heritage River. The park lies in the southern part of the Canadian Shield, representing some of the oldest exposed rock formations in the world. Named for the Voyageurs, French-Canadian canoe-men who traveled these waters in their birch-bark canoes from the Great Lakes to the interior of the western United States and Canada, modern voyageurs continue to ply these waters. On the northern edge of Minnesota's border, 55 miles of the park meander along the Canadian border with Ontario.

Grand PortageNational Monument

The website of the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, for Grand Portage National Monument. This was the headquarters of the North West Company from the 1780s to 1802. Reopened in 1951 as Grand Portage National Historic Site, designated a National Monument in 1958, its nearly 710 acres lying entirely within the boundaries of Grand Portage Ojibwe Indian Reservation, the reconstructed depot celebrates fur trade and Ojibwe lifeways. The Detroit River is one of the 14 Heritage Rivers.

Detroit River Canadian Cleanup Committee

The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup Committee (DRCCC) is “a community based partnership of industry, businesses, government, academics, environmental and community organizations that work collectively in helping to improve the health of the Detroit River.” In meeting the spirit of the Canada-U.S. Great lakes Water Quality Agreement, the purpose of the committee is to clean up, enhance and sustain the ecosystem of the Detroit River and its tributary watersheds.

Detroit River Remedial Action Program

Operated by Michigan State University, the Detroit River Remedial Action Program, part of the Great Lakes ADC Program, is being initiated through a collaborative effort by local communities, businesses, community and environmental organizations, local planning and environmental consultants, state and federal agencies, and universities in Canada and the U.S. Approximately 104 tasks were identified to remediate and resolve persistent environmental and water quality issues of the Detroit River. The Action Plan includes such things as non-point source pollution, land use, contaminated sediments, loss of habitat, urban storm water run-off, community education, outreach, and environmental justice.

Grand River Conservation Authority

The Grand River Conservation Authority is a corporate body established to enable municipalities to jointly undertake water and natural resource management. It was established in 1948 under the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario. The Grand River Conservation Authority was the first to be established in Ontario.
